McQuaid: Lance Armstrong 'was made a scapegoat'

Former president of the International Cycling Union (UCI), Pat McQuaid, says Lance Armstrong's lifetime ban from all sporting activity is overly harsh, and the 43-year-old has been made a 'scapegoat' for doping in cycling.

McQuaid preceded current chief Brian Cookson as president of cycling's world governing body. Cookson was asked for a response by 5 live Sport, but refused.

Now McQuaid believes Armstrong has served his time for his wrongdoings and should have his ban reduced by Usada, the United States' anti-doping agency, to allow him to compete in marathon and triathlon events.
