BBC Minute and The Inquiry
With BBC launching BBC Minute – a 60 second news bulletin – in February, can short form journalism still inform audiences? And, behind the scenes at The Inquiry.
This week Rajan Datar is looking at the new short news bulletin, BBC Minute. It is currently in the trial stages and audiences have been reacting to a trial version online. It will launch in February 2015 as a minute burst of the latest stories released every half an hour. But can it still inform audiences? Rajan talks to BBC Minute editor Simon Peeks about whether the BBC is trying to attract a new, younger audience with this approach.
And a listener prompts us to launch an inquiry into The Inquiry. It’s a relatively new programme on the BBC World Service and its sound and approach seems to be earning listener approval. We speak to presenter Helena Merriman to find out what appeals to her as a presenter and editor Richard Knight to discuss taking a non-confrontational approach.
