Jihadist Violence Coverage

BBC World Service released the findings of its joint study with the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at King’s College London. They found that in November 2014 Jihadist groups, including Islamic State and Boko Haram, were responsible for 5,042 deaths. The BBC broadcast multiple reports and frequent analysis of the findings and the audience was quick to react, some strongly questioning the methodology and definition of these groups. The BBC World Service’s head of news, Andrew Whitehead, joins Rajan Datar to answer the criticisms. Also in the studio is a student from London’s School of Oriental and African Studies’ Violence, Conflict, and Development course, who has been avidly listening and watching the coverage and gives her view. And Rajan pays a visit to the BBC Arabic Service to find out how the special programming on the subject was received by some of the audience.
