MEMO started off life as Boxing Elephants, and they all hail from the North Worcestershire area.

The began as a small recording project, showcasing life through the eyes of their 17-year-old singer Hannah McNally - but they're now regularly gigging all over the Midlands.

Away from music, Hannah, Ian and Oliver are either at university, teaching drums or building submarines!

All of our live studio sessions and festival gigs since 2005...

30 May - 1 June: Wychwood Festival, Cheltenham Racecourse

It's 10 years since the Wychwood Festival started on Cheltenham Racecourse - and for the last few events, BBC Hereford & Worcester has had its very own stage there.

Set beneath the rolling beauty of the Prestbury Hills, major acts this year include The Boomtown Rats, Newton Faulkner, Gentleman’s Dub Club, The Real Thing, Craig Charles, Bipolar Sunshine, Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer, Merry Hell, La Chiva Gantiva, Gary Delaney and Paul Tonkinson and many more.

BBC Introducing in Ledbury

BBC Introducing in Ledbury
They've got one of the biggest stages in our area - plus a giant cinema-sized screen, making it the perfect place to showcase local musicians!

Ledbury's Market Theatre is run by a team of volunteers, and when we rolled up on Sunday 2 March for our second recording roadshow at this particular venue, Herefordshire's John Challis from Only Fools & Horses had been in the spotlight only the night before.

So throughout the whole of March and spilling into April, we're bringing you the bands and musicians that we recorded at the theatre, along with the massive gathering of festival organisers who turned up to talk about their summer events.

Meet some of our local musicians...

Reviews

This week, Andy O'Hare reviews:

  • The Broken Oak Duet & Hey You Guys! at The Marr's Bar, Worcester.
  • The Linerunners at The Victory, Hereford.
  • The Sparrows, Kim Rydr, Enzo & Krescendo at The Great Malvern Hotel.

Features

Features
  • If you've ever wanted to get into a time machine and go back to the time when gig tickets cost the equivalent of 20p, then it's probably best listen to the papers with Danni Hunt before getting into any Tardis. She had the news of a Worcestershire venue offering 1964 prices.
  • We catch up with the Malvern band Babajack who've just returned from a European Tour.
  • Plus - it was named the least musically sophisticated town in Great Britain - BBC Midlands Today investigates how Redditch is fighting back.
  • In the gig guide, we unfortunately have no 20p gigs on offer for you - but we do have some absolutely free ones, including our own recording session in Malvern tomorrow.

Movie soundtrack

Movie soundtrack

The music of a Worcester band has become the official soundtrack to a film about domestic violence.

Silent War is an independent not-for-profit production that has been filmed locally over the last 12 months, featuring the music of Ronin.

Human Voice - who's behind the project says: "I write and make films for one reason only - I believe that being open and honest about our emotions and sharing our true selves is a vital part of healing.

"The world would be a far better place if we were given the room to be honest and truthful.

"So many souls have been contaminated by the restrictions and suppression of our denial infested society.

"If we all shared more we would see that we are not the only ones who suffer, so many other souls suffer in silence.

"Life should not be a silent war."

BBC Introducing in West Malvern

BBC Introducing in West Malvern
Our next recording session takes place on Sunday 30 March at the West Malvern Social Club and features five acts who we've been playing on BBC Hereford & Worcester recently.

It's free to get in - and this is your chance to see how we capture live music on tape, while being able to enjoy some of the hottest new acts we've got in our area right now.

None of these artists knew they were being considered for a live session - they were chosen based on the tracks they uploaded to us.

Doors open at 2pm - but you're more than welcome to turn up anytime until 6pm.
