Mixing desk with script

  • Entrance
  • Live end, where we record the more echoey locations - anything from a bathroom to a cathedral
  • Julie Beckett (directing), Ryan Kelly (Jazzer) and Carole Boyd (Lynda)
  • Roomsets
  • Dead room. The panels absorb the sound with no echo, so this is where we record outdoor scenes
  • Babies
  • Doorbells
  • Doorbell - woe betide us if we play the wrong one
  • Feed - pig nuts, sheep nuts etc
  • Grit - a little bit sprinkled on the floor gives a satisfying crunch
  • Brush - and then the grit has to be cleared up again...
  • Cables
  • Aga - nothing else quite sounds the same
  • Sink
  • Belfast sink - also stands in for baths, or even swimming pools
  • Pans - note the very nourishing tissue paper food
  • Radio booze (water)
  • Sofa - also folds out to be a bed. Ooh, that's seen some action over the years...
  • Piano
  • Stereo microphone - actually two mics, one above the other
  • Bike - as you can see, no-one's likely to ride away on it
  • Stairs - stone, wood (with or without carpet) and metal fire escape
  • Phones
  • Joanna van Kampen (Fallon) and Scott Arthur (Rhys) in the dead room
  • Cubicle - the studio's control room

  • "Gram" effects - they used to be on gramophone records, but are now all digital
  • Gram effects in close up
  • Video link, so we can see all parts of the studio from the cubicle
  • Meters - the loudest sounds should peak at 6
