Using rhythmic motifs to develop a composition

Classical, folk and jazz influences are combined in an original piece of music for mixed ensemble. Composer Michael O'Suilleabhain and percussionist Mel Mercier reflect on a collaborative composition. Mercier provides a tabla piece to which O'Suilleabhain adds layers of melody and harmony interacting with the rhythmic parts. Finally an improvised part for saxophone is added.
