Britain's policy of appeasement

After consideration, the British government decided against military opposition to Hitler’s reoccupation of the Rhineland. They decided instead to follow a policy of appeasement. The British hoped that, with the backing of the international community, this approach could settle any dispute through diplomacy and avoid risking military action.
