Net etiquette

Fish caught in Madagascar are highly prized. There are many superstitions and taboos surrounding fishing: taking an orange or lemon in your canoe, walking underneath a net, or setting out on a fishing trip straight after a meal all mean you won't catch anything. Stealing another man's net means you will get leprosy. If a stranger on the beach asks for a fish, he will be given it as a gift, as generosity will guarantee a generous catch the following day.
