'Bosman' of football TV rights

Full time approaches in a landmark legal battle over Premier League TV rights at the European Court.

Portsmouth-based publican, Karen Murphy, is appealing to the European Court of Justice following her conviction for screening live Premier League matches in her pub via a cheap, Greek satellite channel called Nova - instead of the official UK broadcaster, Sky Sports.

5 live Investigates presenter, Adrian Goldberg, caught up with publican Karen Murphy to ask her how she was feeling ahead of the European Court's announcement; and also spoke to industry expert, Frank Dunne, of TVSportsMarkets.com, about the importance of the case.

It's been a rocky couple of weeks for Sky Sports, following the channel's sexism controversy, but it could be about to get worse as full time approaches in a landmark legal battle over Premier League TV rights.

As 5 live Investigates first reported in October 2010, Portsmouth-based publican, Karen Murphy, is appealing to the European Court of Justice following her conviction for screening live Premier League matches in her pub via a cheap, Greek satellite channel called Nova - instead of the official UK broadcaster, Sky Sports.

This Thursday, the Advocate General at the European Court will issue a legal opinion on the case, giving the clearest indication yet on the court's final decision. The verdict could dramatically reduce the amount fans have to pay to watch live games down the pub or at home - and could also put a huge dent in the income received by Premier League.
