Rannoch Moor

Examination of soil samples indicates how, around 4000 years ago, a sudden shift to a cooler, wetter climate caused water levels at Rannoch Moor and across Scotland to rise. Pine trees were unable to survive and there was a collapse of the pine ecosystem. Forests across Scotland drowned.
