It announced that it had a huge scoop, because it had discovered one of the most sought-after fossils in all history, half-bird, half-dinosaur. It seemed to prove one of the most controversial theories in palaeontology, that dinosaurs had evolved into birds. Eminent scientists appeared to authenticate the fossil, but all was not what it seemed.
