Clare Balding's Road to the Winter Games

Ahead of the Winter Games, Clare Balding travels to South Korea to experience the local culture, visit the venues in Pyeongchang and hear from some of the medal contenders.

Thirty years after holding the summer Olympic games in its capital city, South Korea now host the 23rd Winter Games in Pyeongchang where the world's greatest athletes will test what's humanly possible against nature and each other. Travelling to South Korea, Clare Balding takes in a flavour of the country, meeting local people and hearing about the excitement and challenges of hosting the event. Clare visits the stunning new venues and hears from some of the medal contenders including alpine ski racing legends Lindsey Vonn and Aksel Lund Svindal, reigning skeleton champion Lizzy Yarnold and speed skater Elise Christie - a triple world champion in 2017 who is out for Olympic redemption having been disqualified in all three of her races in Sochi four years ago.
