The Mountain that Eats Men

The Cerro Rico Mountain was once said to contain enough silver to build a bridge between South America and Spain. But its collapsing, threatening the lives of thousands of miners.

Bolivia's Cerro Rico Mountain was once said to contain enough silver to build a bridge between South America and Spain. But now it's collapsing, threatening the lives of the thousands of miners who work there. For Our World, Catharina Moh, goes underground into what is known locally as 'The Mountain that Eats Men.' She meets the miners, many of them young boys, and the families who depend on the mountain for their livelihood. And as Bolivia's socialist president, Evo Morales, seeks an unprecedented third term in the forthcoming elections, Catharina asks what he's done to improve the lives of those living in the shadow of the mountain.
