Booker Prize-winning Irish author Roddy Doyle meets BBC Arts Correspondent Rebecca Jones at Cheltenham Literature Festival. Best known for his depictions of working class Ireland, many of his works have been adapted (often by himself) for film, television and the stage. Thirty years after his iconic debut novel The Commitments was published, his latest book Smile is a chilling exploration into how our memories of the past may not be quite all they seem.
