Reel Americana - A July 4th Special

A special Sound of Cinema for the Fourth of July, as Edith Bowman celebrates the 250th anniversary of the USA, showcasing film scores that have captured its spirit.

Join Edith Bowman for a special Fourth of July edition as she celebrates the 250th anniversary of the USA, delving into the film archives to explore soundtracks which have captured the spirit of Independence Day across the decades. Expect music from legendary composers including John Williams, David Arnold, Hans Zimmer and Jerry Goldsmith that reflects a sense of American identity.

Edith talks to director, screenwriter and composer Mike Figgis about his score for Leaving Las Vegas - a film that examines the unravelling of the American dream - and composer Jon Opstad dissects the music in Eyes Wide Shut, Stanley Kubrick's final movie which explores American class, privilege, and the myth of personal freedom.
