Turkey's South Eastern Soul

Chef and content creator Julie Lin is on a Turkish adventure, shaped by her passion for food. In the country's south east, she explores living traditions and stories from the dawn of civilisation.

Chef and content creator Julie Lin is on a Turkish adventure - combining her passion for food with history. Travelling through the south east, known as the gastronomic heart, she first stops in the city of Gazianetep - world famous for its baklava. Julie uncovers what makes this delicacy and the locally grown pistachios inside it so special.

Heading further east, she visits the Neolithic site of Karahan Tepe, a discovery so significant that it is reshaping our understanding of human history. Guided by the archaeological team, Julie explores their latest finds, including what may be the world's oldest kitchen. Her journey ends in Şanlıurfa, cooking with a family keeping traditional recipes alive, discovering the city's signature smoked pepper, and finishing her trip with a vibrant cultural, night-time celebration and an unusual raw-meat dish.
