Peanut Butter Wolf celebrates 20 years of J Dillas's seminal album Donuts

Peanut Butter Wolf joins Huw to talk about his friend J Dilla, and to celebrate Dilla's seminal album Donuts released on Stones Throw Records 20 years ago in February 2006.

Tonight on the show we mark a landmark moment in hip‑hop history as we celebrate 20 years of Donuts — the masterpiece by the legendary producer J Dilla, released on Stones Throw Records on 7 February 2006, just days before Dilla’s untimely death. Donuts has gone on to be revered as one of the most influential albums in hip‑hop — a dense, soul‑soaked journey of samples, that reshaped how producers and fans think about beats.

To mark the 20th anniversary, Huw is joined in the studio by Peanut Butter Wolf — the founder of Stones Throw Records and the person who first brought Dilla into the label’s orbit. Together they’ll reflect on the story behind Donuts, from the early days of hearing Dilla’s beats and championing his vision, through the challenges and triumphs of releasing the album, to the way it continues to inspire artists and fans two decades on.

We'll also get to know Montreal based Magi Merlin in this weeks 'Huw are you', and we'll have another quiz from Huw's Music Quiz Generator, giving one of you the opportunity to win a Music Sounds Better With Huw pinbadge.
