A poet and singer-songwriter, Labi Siffre began his musical career in 1970, releasing six albums that decade. In 1971, he released the classic track Bless The Telephone (which has discovered a new audience on social media more recently), and his track It Must Be Love from the same year was later covered by Madness. He also had hits with I Got The... and in the 80s wrote the anti-apartheid anthem (Something Inside) So Strong.
Labi said: “It's nice to be singing with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the BBC Maida Vale studios to millions of BBC listeners and viewers around the world. I've always enjoyed recording with the Maida Vale team and I hope you like the result.”
Back for its fifth year, Radio 2 Piano Room Month sees globally-famous, award-winning artists perform three tracks - a new song, one of their well-known numbers, and an unexpected cover version - all accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra.
A BBC Audio production for BBC Radio 2.
