**John Arlott MBE, (born February 1914 - died December 1991), was best known as a BBC radio cricket commentator of unparalleled descriptive powers. But he was also a published poet by the age of 30. He succeeded George Orwell as a BBC Literary Programmes Producer (1945-50).

In this programme, as part of a series he recorded for the BBC World Service, he introduces poetry readings.
