A Game of Cat and Mouseman
After losing both parents, siblings Sarah and James call in JB and Saf to help turn heirlooms into a dream holiday. Will Mouseman creations and cricket books bowl over the bidders?
After losing both their parents to Alzheimer's disease, siblings Sarah and James have found it hard to sort through their mum and dad’s belongings. Box upon box has been brought from their parents’ home, and they are now taking up space in Sarah’s house. But after James’s operation for a brain tumour, and with retirement looming for Sarah, the siblings realise time is precious. They’ve enlisted the help of auctioneer JB and restorer Saf to help them uncover any hidden gems amongst their parent’s possessions in the hope of making enough money at auction for their own families to have a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. Can the Travelling Auctioneers help them make new memories?
There’s an exciting repair job for local lad Saf as he tackles three pieces made by renowned Yorkshire furniture maker Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson, including a rare Siamese cat carving. But he’ll need to take care. Overdo the fixes, and he could seriously devalue these potentially lucrative artefacts. He also employs a cunning little hack that removes tarnish from silver almost instantly.
JB roots out a host of items dating back to the First World War and a box of very special chess pieces with an illustrious heritage. And there’s also a strong Yorkshire flavour to one of JB’s finds as well – a set of cricket books signed by some of the county’s greatest players.
But at the auction, will the bidders be bowled over, or will it be the cat that gets the cream?
