Pugin Tiles, Medicine Ball, Duke of York Stone

Episode 24 of 25

A collection of encaustic tiles leaves Jo and JB speechless, Glen hopes to find a fortune with his metal detector, and swimming teacher Lynne treats the dealers to a workout.

There’s no rest to be had when we welcome young wannabe dealer Glen back to the room. Last time he was here, he sat in JB’s chair. This time, he has the dealers out of theirs as they try to strike gold with his vintage metal detector.

And now for something completely different. Kay is here with a lot so large, she could only bring a small sample to Edinburgh. An entire church floor’s-worth of antique Augustus Pugin-designed encaustic tiles, enough to bring a tear to Jo’s eye and set JB’s heart racing. But who will be willing to dig deep to hit her substantial reserve price?

Then, a rare Zen-like state briefly descends upon the room, when our second seller of the day, Shantal, appears with two charming Buddhist statues.

Of course, nothing lasts forever, and Gary will need to get our buyers a bit more animated if he hopes to make a profit. He’s made the long journey from Poole, with the aim of selling an architectural antique with a royal connection. It’s a substantial piece, but will it be worth its weight in gold?

And we end with another item that will bring the dealers to their feet. Retired swimming teacher Lynne soon has the room a little more animated as she leads the dealers in an exercise class in an attempt to prove just how indispensable her vintage medicine ball is.
