London, 1888. In Newgate Prison, Miriam Cromer awaits the death penalty for the murder of Josiah Perceval, her husband's photographic assistant.

She has confessed that blackmail drove her to the crime, but a photograph sent anonymously to the Home Office reveals new evidence.
