Sara meets Marc-André Hamelin

Sara Mohr-Pietsch with guests, stories and the perfect classical soundtrack to start the weekend.

Sara Mohr-Pietsch meets Canadian pianist Marc-André Hamelin in between takes for his next album on the Hyperion label. He gives an exclusive performance for BBC Radio 3 and talks about his latest album which includes music by Frank Zappa, John Cage and his own compositions.

Anoushka Shankar, superstar of the sitar, chats to Sara about what it meant to receive the Ivor Novello Award for Innovation earlier this week. She reflects on how she went about carving her own path as a sitar player pushing musical boundaries, what makes a great collaboration, and, having added another two to her belt this week, how Grammy nominations have punctuated her musical and family life over the past 25 years.

We also hear from composer Laura Karpman and conductor Marin Alsop about the upcoming world premiere of a full orchestral version of Laura's opera 'Balls', recreating the 'Battle of the Sexes' tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in 1973.
