'I never did master tickling fish!'
Sean says he saw fish being tickled, but never mastered it himself.
“When I was only 11 or 12, we used to go to the river to catch fish,” says Joe in Loughinisland. “We put our hands in and tickled their belly. Then pulled them out.”
“Well I know what you’re talking about,” Sean says. “I saw it in a burn near us that ran through the fields. The big boys would lie down and tickle the trout. I never mastered it!”
“I grew up along the Mississippi River,” says Geezer. “Some crazy guys would ‘noodle.’ They'd catch catfish by poking their arms into likely spots. They thrust their fists into the fish's mouths and pulled them out. Of course their arms would be bruised!”
“I don’t believe it for a second!”
“Afternoon chief!” says Spike in Ardoyne. “Tickling the fish and grabbing it is called ‘hand walloping’ in my neck of the woods. I never mastered it either!”
