Personal Pleasures - Walking Through Leaves by Vita Sackville-West

4 Extra Debut. Author and garden designer Vita Sackville-West shares her simple personal pleasures in life. From 1950.

**** This programme was suggested by Michael Wilks as part of BBC Radio 4 Extra’s All Request Weekend ****

Author and garden designer Vita Sackville-West shares with the listeners some of her simple personal pleasures in life.

The Sackville-West family used the expression ‘through leaves’ as shorthand for ‘walking through leaves’ to describe these moments. This then morphed into ‘through leave-ness’ or ‘through leavery’.

Among her simple pleasures were a smooth-running drawer and the action of her new French corkscrew.

First broadcast on the BBC Home Service in February 1950.
