Episode 2

The teams race to reach the second checkpoint – Sanya, one of China's most southerly cities. As well as choosing the best route to get there, they have a typhoon to contend with.

The race to Kanniyakumari is well underway. Each team must reach the second checkpoint of Sanya, one of China’s most southerly cities, located on the tip of Hainan Island. To get there, they can either city-hop down the coast of the East China Sea, utilising the country’s network of high-speed bullet trains, or they can venture inland, a more rural route that takes in some of China’s spectacular landscapes.

The final challenge of the leg is to reach Hainan Island – usually an easy ferry ride – but with a typhoon fast approaching from the south, it’s a race against time for the contestants to reach their destination.
