Episode 7

Episode 7 of 16

Police hunt down Bermuda’s motorbike thieves, a British officer on patrol wilts in the stifling 30-degree heat, and a man faces being arrested for trespass.

The island paradise of Bermuda is just 21 square miles, and to limit traffic congestion, locals are restricted to having only one car per household. This means motorbikes and scooters are Bermuda’s most popular mode of transport. The theft of two-wheeled vehicles is a big problem.

We follow officer Bryden Pedro and his partner Shandora Burrows on the trail of the bike thieves in a bid to crack down on the five motorbikes being stolen each day. We see the constables chase a suspected thief through the winding backstreets of a residential area and then eventually track down another stolen motorbike abandoned in waste ground. Later, bike impound officer Mark Lewis returns a recovered moped to its original owner, more than a year after it was stolen.

Bike theft isn’t the only problem facing cops on the roads in Bermuda. Uninsured and unlicensed vehicles are a major headache for officers on the island. Sgt Helen McHugh, who is British, and her Bermudan-born colleague, officer Peter-Paul Taylor, are on a mission to put the brakes on motorists bending the rules on the roads in the 30-degree heat.

Meanwhile, officer Gregory White needs to deal with a vagrant loitering in a shop cark park. The constable discovers the man also has an outstanding warrant in his name for trespass, leaving Officer White with little choice but to arrest the man and take him back to the police station.
