'What's the point of corner flags?'

Sean wonders what the point of corner flags is. Barry has an answer.

“I have a question for football fans,” Sean says. “I asked Barney Sloan this question and he ignored me. On the field of play what’s the point of having corner flags?”
“The corner flag exists,” says Barry, “to make the distinction of, when the ball crosses the by-line, whether it is a corner or goal kick or throw in. They're an absolute necessity in the modern game as somehow top level professionals have got thicker than champ!”
“Not at all!” Sean says. “I’m not buying into that!”
“The reason for the corner flag,” says Torso, “is to give the goal scorer somewhere to celebrate.”
