A special live broadcast by the BBC Philharmonic

Elizabeth Alker presents a special concert live from MediaCity with the BBC Philharmonic performing Beethoven, CPE Bach and Haydn.

Elizabeth Alker with a concert broadcast live from the MediaCity studios in Salford performed by this week's featured orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic.

In a first for Classical Live, we take a short trip from the radio studio to the orchestra's studios where, from 2.30pm, they perform a range of first symphonies, stretching from CPE Bach to Beethoven. The orchestra is conducted by New York-born Joshua Wallerstein, the son of violinist Donald Weilerstein (founding first violinist of the Cleveland Quartet) and pianist Vivian Hornik Weilerstein.

Also today, the Paris-based Van Kuijk String Quartet perform Debussy and there's music from Estonia by the vocal group Vox Clamantis.
