'And we say 'aye' for 'yes' and 'yes' for hello!'
Patrick in Derry is wondering why we says 'yes' when we mean 'hello'.
“I have another local saying,” says Patrick in Derry. ‘He's got a gob on him like Shipquay Gate’, meaning he's got a big mouth. And why do we say ‘aye’ in Derry, meaning ‘yes’? I am wondering if it's to do with the sailors who used to be based in Derry during the war. And now we all say ‘aye’ for ‘yes’, and we say ‘yes’ for ‘hello’.”
“Sometimes,” Sean says, “I wonder what has happened to this show!”
“Well,” says Patrick, “you started it!”
With music from The Dave Clark Five, Fats Domino, Sammy Davis Jr, and more.
