'I’d nearly buy a poker to sing to that!'
Willie the Whinge wants to buy a poker to sing along to Red Hurley. Sean says he used a hairbrush for singing.
Can I ask you a question,” says Willie the Whinge. “Was Red Hurley a front room singer?”
“I doubt if he was a front room singer,” Sean says. “But he may have been! We’ll put it out there and ask the people!”
“He’s a great chanter!” says Willie. “I’d nearly go out and buy a poker to sing into it… if I had a real fire.”
“I didn’t sing into a poker,” Sean says. “Nor did I sing into a bottle! One of my sisters had a plastic brush with long teeth. And a little round ball at the end. For backcombing, maybe? That was my microphone. It was a hairbrush!”
