As part of the BBC’s Bernstein night, acclaimed conductor Marin Alsop shares her own experiences of the legendary West Side Story composer.

It was as a nine-year-old girl that Marin first saw Bernstein, and from that moment, she knew she wanted to be a conductor. Here, she talks about eventually becoming a student of Bernstein’s, why he is such a significant figure in the world of music and how he ultimately helped inspire her to achieve her dreams.
