Christian Blind Mission (CBM)

CBM works in the world’s poorest places to prevent avoidable blindness and transform the lives of people with disabilities. Every day, people needlessly lose their sight to conditions like cataracts because they don’t have access to sight-saving treatment.

When Memory lost her sight to cataracts, she stopped going to school as she’d often fall or get lost on the way. Sight-restoring cataract surgery can cost just £95, but for her family in rural Malawi it was out of reach.

After cataract surgery at CBM’s partner hospital, Memory no longer needs to cling to her mum’s arm to get around – she can see to get around safely. She laughs as she watches bubbles floating in the air and pops them with her hands. Now she hopes to go back to school.

CBM works with local hospitals and health workers in the world’s poorest places to improve access to sight-saving services for those in greatest need. Together we can build a world where nobody is needlessly blind.
