Celtic Connections at the Quay 2023

Celtic Connections at the Quay, recorded live from BBC Scotland’s foyer at Pacific Quay in Glasgow.

Roddy Hart presents performances from the brilliant young Scottish singer-songwriter, and rising star, Lewis McLaughlin, Iceland’s Blood Harmony - who specialise in Nordic folk and Americana and Glasgow Legends, The Bluebells.

One of the most exciting performers to have come out of Scotland in recent years, Edinburgh-born Lewis McLaughlin was inspired by the likes of John Martyn and Villagers to begin writing and recording his own songs. After winning the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition and a packed summer of festival performances across the UK in 2022, the now Glasgow-based, singer will perform songs from his debut album Feel The Ground You Walk Upon, and recent EP, Rollin’ On, with his live band.

Hailing from North Iceland, Blood Harmony started as a collaboration project of brother and sister Örn Eldjárn and Ösp Eldjárn. To perfect the “Blood Harmony”, which happens when close family members sing together, Örn and Ösp are joined by their sister, Björk Eldjárn. In their music they fuse together elements of Nordic folk and Americana.

Legendary Scottish indie new wave band, The Bluebells shot to fame in the 1980’s, with three Top 40 hits - I’m Falling, Cath and Young at Heart - first active between 1981 and 1986, they have since reformed and have a brand new album coming out this spring - we’ll hear all about it.
