On 26 September 2002, the government-owned Senegalese ferry the Joola capsized off the coast of The Gambia. Over 1800 people died and just 64 survived. It is recognised as the second-worst peacetime maritime disaster in world history, taking the lives of many more than the infamous Titanic, but has long been shrouded in mystery.

On the eve of its 20th anniversary, this documentary investigates why this tragedy occurred and tells the harrowing stories of survivors and families, who continue to call for the wreckage to be raised.
