Among the highlights was the women's 100m final, with an expected showdown between Dina Asher-Smith and ageless Jamaican star Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. A wide-open men’s event also reached its climax, Katarina Johnson-Thompson was looking to retain her heptathlon title, while swimmers Duncan Scott and Ben Proud, world champion mountain biker Evie Richards and weightlifting trailblazer Emily Campbell were going for gold.
