Festivals on Our Minds
Gary West brings you more high quality music from the international bagpipe family, as he explores a range of festivals on both sides of the Atlantic.
Gary West takes you on a visit to a range of festivals on both sides of the Atlantic to take in some of the finest piping performances of recent times. Piping Live and Celtic Connections represent the Scottish scene, the USA gives us Winter Storm in Kansas City and the Pipers’ Gathering in Vermont, Armagh in Northern Ireland hosts the William Kennedy Festival, while the beautiful west coast of Brittany calls us to the Festival de Cornouaille. The cast of pipers we hear from includes Chris Armstrong, Gordon Duncan, Fred Morrison, Alasdair Gillies, Andy May, Anxo Lorenzo, Kathryn Tickell and Paddy Keenan, as well as the Inverarary and District and Field Marshall Montgomery pipe bands. The Baghad Kemper treat us to the rich, vibrant sounds of Brittany, while Brighde Chaimbeul gives us a taster of what we might expect from her performance at the opening night of this year’s Edinburgh International Festival.
