Oakland, California: Cassius Green is young, black and broke. Living in his uncle's garage without an income, he has accumulated debts. He finally lands a job at a local telemarketing company, where he is soon let into a peculiar secret to getting ahead. As he rises through the ranks, his telemarketing friends and colleagues, including his artist girlfriend, decide to stage a strike for better conditions. But this is precisely the moment that Cassius is offered a promotion. Which side should he choose? And how much does he know about what lies behind the alluring new career prospects?
