Sightsavers
Our vision is of a world where no one is blind from avoidable causes (like trachoma), and where people with disabilities participate equally in society. We work in over 30 countries worldwide – mainly across Africa and Asia, and with the help of our partners, distribute treatments to prevent disease, carry out eye operations, advocate for disability rights and improve health services to create sustainable development projects.
Living with blinding trachoma.

Trachoma is avoidable and treatable yet is still the leading infectious cause of blindness worldwide. Zuwaira is a 42-year-old mother from Nigeria. She’d been living with the advanced form of blinding trachoma for 27 years and was in excruciating pain. Carrying out everyday tasks was hard.
Life-changing surgery.

Caught early, trachoma can be treated with antibiotics, but for advanced cases like Zuwaira’s surgery is essential to relieve the agonising pain and prevent permanent sight loss. After her surgery, she had one more night to wait before her bandages could be safely removed.
Successful treatment and a big smile!

Zuwaira was beaming after recovering from her surgery. She told us how she danced with joy when she saw her husband Sale (pictured) after years of not being able to see him. She’s happy to be regaining her independence and is enjoying a life free of pain. Your donation could help transform more lives like Zuwaira’s.
