After the shock of failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup – a tournament they had not missed since 1958 – Italy have been revitalised by former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, who has rebuilt his side around emerging talents such as AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.
Turkey will begin as underdogs in Rome but should not be underestimated. Leicester centre-back Caglar Soyuncu will marshal a defence that conceded just three goals in ten qualifying matches, including a 2-0 win against World Cup holders France.
