The walls close in on Alice, and Rex looks to the future.

Elizabeth’s shocked to hear Rex plans to sell his pig meat direct to the customer and cut ties with Bridge Fresh. She hopes her refusal to allow his pigs at Lower Loxley didn’t have a bearing on his decision. He reassures her he’d already given it a lot of thought. Elizabeth pushes Rex as to whether he’d thought much about how his pigs might benefit her business. His response intrigues her. He has lots of creative ideas for attracting new visitors, and his suggestion for outside eating chimes with Elizabeth’s plan for an outdoor movie screen. She likes his thinking and suggests a formal tenancy agreement along with him supplying their pork. Rex is delighted at this about-turn.
Alice apologises to Jakob for not choosing him as a godparent. Bewildered Jakob assures Alice her choices are sound; he’d be rubbish. He’s his own person and isn’t swayed by any beef Kate has; if he reacted to all her issues he’d never keep up! So he stays calm. Later he puts his wisdom into practice, and lays it on the line to Kate. She needs to listen to other people’s opinions more, and grow up. He cares and wants her to be the best she can be. Chastened Kate apologises to Alice. She admits she’s a screw up. She can’t even be sure her own children love her. Alice remarks everyone makes mistakes. Kate insists Alice is lucky. She’s the golden child, on top of everything. Kate’s glad they’ve had this chat, she feels better for it. Alice half-heartedly agrees.
