More Power To Your Elbow

Gary West explores the branch of the bagpipe family in which the instruments are powered by bellows rather than by the human breath.

Gary West explores the branch of the bagpipe family in which the instruments are powered by bellows rather than by the human breath. That journey takes us to both the highlands and lowlands of Scotland, to Northumbria, London and Ireland. Our Pibroch of the Day features Stuart Liddell playing a very modern tune as that tradition goes – the Garden of Roses composed by Pipe Major Donald Macleod in the mid twentieth century. And Gary gets on his bike to visit the site of a battle in East Lothian which played a key role in piping history.
