Shula questions her future and two residents dig for information.

Peggy asks Emma how her mum and dad are doing in the wake of the interview they gave to the Borchester Echo. Emma mentions how the playground has hardly been used since the slavery revelations and Peggy suggests Emma could think of a way to put that right. Peggy also asks Emma about Chris following his hand injury. Emma was unaware it had happened and admits she’s not had much contact with her brother or Alice recently. When Peggy says she thinks of Alice and Chris and wishes them well, Emma is prompted to ask what she means. Peggy explains she intends to be there for them as they’ll no doubt need support when the baby arrives. She sees Chris as part of her family. Emma ties herself in knots when she hurriedly adds that Chris also has his own family too.
Unable to track down Alan, Neil seeks out Shula to resign as church warden following all of the nasty comments about his and Susan’s interview with the Echo. Shula begs him to reconsider. In turn she admits that she went to visit Philip in prison as his request and now, realising that was a mistake, she’s wondering about halting her ordination studies. Neil says Shula should apply her own advice to him to move on positively in her own situation. Shula tells Neil he’s a good person and an asset to Ambridge while Neil calls Shula brave. They agree that neither of them will give up the roles they were thinking of quitting.
