The Coroners’ Courts Support Service (CCSS)
There were 31,284 Inquests investigating who had died, how, when and where they died, in England and Wales during 2019. Many people have no understanding of the Inquest process and little, if any, support to guide them, all at a time when grieving. Our volunteers offer family, friends and witnesses emotional support and practical advice before, during and after the often complicated and bewildering Inquest process and via our national Helpline.
‘Here for you’ at an inquest like Juliet

When someone attends an Inquest, our volunteers will be ‘Here for You’. Our aim is for a volunteer, like Juliet, to be that welcoming, friendly face - someone you can talk to who understands the proceedings and can offer reassurance.
Rhys on the Helpline

Rhys is one of our trained Helpline volunteers, available to support at any stage of the Inquest process and can signpost to other support agencies if required.
Making a Difference

“. . . you made an extremely upsetting and traumatic time easier – a friendly face to greet us and just be there for us all . . . we are forever grateful.” Just one example of the gratitude expressed by those people we have supported.
