Tom Brook marks the 40th anniversary of former Beatle John Lennon's murder in New York on December 8th 1980. His untimely death was a slaying that shocked millions of fans around the world. In 'Lennon Remembered: A Reporter's Journal' the BBC's Tom Brook, the first British journalist to report live from the site of the New York shooting, takes stock of Lennon's life and the legacy of his music. Brook recounts what happened on the night Lennon died when he returned to his home, the Dakota apartment building on Manhattan's Upper West Side, with his wife Yoko Ono and he hears from some of Lennon's closest confidantes as well as younger Lennon fans in America today. Drawing on a wealth of archive material, the programme includes Tom Brook's interview with the former Beatle's widow, Yoko Ono, one of the first she gave in which she discussed Lennon's life and death. The programme assesses John Lennon's powerful legacy forty years on and asks whether his messages of love and peace are still relevant now.
