New Work in Wales

Nicola Heywood Thomas rounds up the new music and online theatre being produced in Wales - and the first tentative steps towards re-opening actual theatres after lockdown

As theatres tentatively begin to emerge from lockdown Nicola Heywood Thomas speaks to Andy Eagle from Cardiff’s Chapter Arts Centre about his plans for re-opening.

It’s the First Night of the Proms – albeit in a very different form from usual. Composer Iain Farrington tells us how he’s created a mash-up of Beethoven’s symphonies for a huge virtual orchestra – featuring the BBC National Orchestra of Wales – to perform in honour of the composer’s 250th birthday.

Musician and sound artist Jobina Tinnemans tells us how she’s been inspired by the wild places of Wales for her new album.

And Scott Arthur and Alice Eklund explain how they’ve been bringing artists and performers together in online forums for both creativity and support.
