Able Child Africa
Able Child Africa is a UK charity working to improve the lives of children with disabilities in Africa. It works in partnership with local organisations in Uganda, Kenya Tanzania and Rwanda to protect, educate and empower some of the world’s most vulnerable children. It builds the capacity of its local partners, delivers high quality projects and advocates for change, so children with disabilities can achieve their full potential.
Protect

Up to 80% of children with disabilities in Africa will not live to be 5 years old. The children who do are four times more likely to suffer abuse. By supporting local families and organisations to break down the stigma and discrimination around disability, we ensure the protection and inclusion of children, like Betty, with disabilities within their communities.
Educate

Over 90% of children with disabilities in Africa do not attend school. Betty was introduced to a young blind woman, Valentina, as a mentor. We develop inclusive education projects that support children with disabilities to access mainstream education alongside their peers.
Empower

Able Child Africa believes all children are able. Able to participate, able to contribute and able to build a better future. By empowering children and young people with disabilities with knowledge of their rights, it breaks down the barriers to their inclusion so they can fulfil their potential. During the current pandemic, this support is even more crucial.
