Emmaus UK
For many who experience homelessness, loss of self-esteem is a major obstacle they must overcome. People who live in Emmaus communities carry out meaningful work in the charity’s social enterprise, making a real contribution. As well as providing a stable home for as long as it is needed, Emmaus provides a purpose and the chance to make a difference.
Lawrence’s story

“I lost my job, my home and ended up sleeping rough on the streets of London on-and-off for two years. Being homeless anywhere isn’t easy but in London in the cold and wet it’s very hard. A day on the streets for me was total isolation and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy."
Training

At Emmaus Lawrence was offered support, a safe home and an opportunity to rebuild his life. He received a grant from the Emmaus Training Fund to complete an electrical qualification. Training and learning new skills within a social enterprise is a crucial part of the support people receive at Emmaus.
Regaining self esteem

Lawrence has regained his self-esteem and is now looking to the future. He is hoping to move on into employment using the skills and experience that he has gained while living at Emmaus.“Emmaus has been there for me throughout my journey and I’m truly grateful.”
