The Virtual Doctors
The Virtual Doctors is a telemedicine charity helping health-care workers in rural clinics across Zambia and Malawi. Smartphones loaded with our bespoke App connect them to more than a hundred volunteer doctors, who offer diagnostic and treatment advice, that enables them to treat patients with severe and complex cases.
Long journeys

Imagine trying to reach a hospital over 50 miles away on such a road when you don’t even own a motor vehicle. Our simple telemedicine service enables rural health care workers to treat more patients within their community. (Chanyanya, Kafue District, Zambia)
Local Clinic

Some remote clinics we serve may be a day’s journey away from the nearest hospital. Hospital referrals are time-consuming, expensive and disruptive to family life. Our App allows health care workers to treat their patients in the community in more than 75% of the cases where they seek advice from us. Ngwerere, Zambia
Using the Virtual Doctors app

Akende is a clinical officer in Kalomo, Southern Zambia who uses the Virtual Doctors service. He says, “in my field of work, I come across different, strange and weird conditions but with the help of the Virtual Doctors I can treat my patients in the right way”.
Helping communities

Shakerrie leads the Zambian team, training and supporting the ever-increasing number of healthcare workers across Zambia and Malawi. “The Virtual Doctors service is doing such good in the community and must continue to expand”, she says. “We’re helping to create a better atmosphere for the healthcare workers who are otherwise isolated.”
