Andover & Lymington

The team create two gardens with wildlife in mind: a hedgehog-friendly garden in Andover and a badger-friendly space in a Halloween garden in Lymington.

The team create two gardens with wildlife in mind: a hedgehog-friendly garden in Andover and a badger-friendly space in a Halloween garden in Lymington.

Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers head to Andover in Hampshire, where keen gardener Anne wants a new direction for her pleasant, tidy garden. She is keen to create a wildlife haven for the hedgehogs that she regularly releases into her back garden on behalf of a local wildlife rescue centre, but hedgehogs like woolly edges and hidey holes, so perhaps the garden is too tidy. The team make sure that their finished design satisfies both Anne and the local hedgehogs, with nesting spaces and safe passageways.

Meanwhile, in Lymington, also in Hampshire, flower arranger Elaine loves gardening as much as Anne, but her front garden is out of control, with loads of messy shrubs, a sprawling conifer and a front door the postman can’t find! But it’s not just the postie that Elaine wants to make the garden friendly for. She loves wildlife and wants to factor in the badgers that pass through her garden. They get well catered for with a sandstone water feature to give them easy access to drinking water. It’s less obvious, though, whether the badgers will appreciate the spooky designs that Halloween-loving Elaine also wants to add to her garden.
